This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information we collect through our platform, including when you create an account, purchase courses or subscriptions, use our practitioner directory, or interact with our content.
As a provider of health-related educational content, we recognise that much of the information you share with us may be sensitive. We take this responsibility seriously and have implemented measures to protect your information accordingly.
2. About Us and This Policy

- Stage of maternal journey (trying to conceive, pregnant, postpartum)

3.2 Sensitive Information (Health Information)
Some of the information you provide is sensitive information under the Privacy Act, specifically health information. This includes your estimated due date, pregnancy stage, fertility, ovulation and menstrual cycle-tracking information, and postpartum information.
Consent for health information: We collect this information only with your explicit consent, which you give when you choose to provide it (for example, when you set up your journey profile or use the cycle tracker). This consent is requested separately from creating an account and from any marketing consent, so you are never required to share health information in order to use Her Journey or to receive marketing. We collect only the health information reasonably necessary for the features you choose to use, and we use it to personalise your experience, such as showing content relevant to your stage.
How we use health information for communications and marketing: If you have opted in to marketing, we may use your journey stage to send you content relevant to that stage. We will never use your health information for advertising, ad targeting, or remarketing, we never load it into any third-party analytics or advertising tool, and we never disclose it to advertising networks or to any third party for their own marketing.
One exception, stated plainly: our own first-party analytics records which journey stage you have selected, so we can understand which parts of Her Journey are used and what to build next. That signal stays on our own servers in Australia. It is never sent to Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, or any advertising tool, and no other health information (your due date, cycle tracking, symptoms or postpartum information) is sent to analytics of any kind.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by:
- Updating your profile to remove health information
- Contacting us at [email protected] to request deletion
- Closing your account
You can choose not to provide this information, although this may limit our ability to personalise your experience.
3.3 Technical Information
When you use our platform, we automatically collect certain technical information, including:
- IP address and device identifiers
- Browser type and operating system
- Pages visited and features used
- Time and date of access
- Referring website or source
3.4 Practitioner Directory Information
Her Journey operates a directory to help users find women’s and maternal health practitioners. Most listings are compiled from publicly available sources, such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) register and public professional directories, rather than being submitted by the practitioners themselves.
For practitioners included in the directory, the information we hold is limited to professional details that are already publicly available, and may include:
- Professional name and credentials
- AHPRA registration details (where applicable)
- Practice location and publicly listed business contact information
- Professional specialties and, where published, a professional biography
We do not publish practitioners' personal (non-professional) information. If you are a practitioner and would like to access, correct, or request removal of your listing, please email [email protected] and we will action your request.

7. Overseas Disclosure
We store your personal information primarily in Australia: our database and authentication are hosted in the Sydney region. Some of our service providers, however, store or process limited personal information outside Australia. Where we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.
The countries where some of your information may be stored or processed include:
- United States: payment processing (Stripe), email delivery (Resend), website security and content delivery (Cloudflare), product analytics (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity), and in-app purchases (Apple, Google)
- European Union: video content hosting and delivery (Bunny Stream)
Some of these providers (such as Cloudflare and Bunny Stream) operate global content-delivery networks, so content may be served from servers in other countries to improve performance.
Safeguards: We put appropriate safeguards in place for these transfers, including contractual obligations requiring our service providers to protect your information to standards consistent with Australian law. Where we disclose your information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles, and we remain accountable for that information. We will update this list if our service providers change.
8. Data Security
We take the security of your personal information seriously and implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. Our security measures include:
Encryption: All data transmitted to and from our platform is encrypted using SSL/TLS. Sensitive data is encrypted at rest.
Access controls: Access to personal information is restricted to authorised personnel on a need-to-know basis.
Secure passwords: Passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing algorithms and are never stored in plain text.
Regular reviews: We regularly review our security practices and update them as needed.
Secure payment processing: Payment card details are processed directly by Stripe (PCI-DSS compliant) or Apple/Google for in-app purchases.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law.
Account information: Retained while your account is active and for up to 7 years after account closure for legal and taxation purposes.
Transaction records: Retained for 7 years as required by Australian taxation law.
Journey information: Deleted upon account closure unless you request earlier deletion.

We understand that pregnancy journeys don't always go as planned. If you experience pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or other difficult circumstances, we offer compassionate data handling options:
10.1 Immediate Data Deletion
You can request immediate deletion of your journey-related data (due date, pregnancy stage, tracking progress) by contacting us at [email protected] or [email protected]. We will process these requests with priority and sensitivity, typically within 48 hours.
10.2 Communication Pause
You can immediately pause all pregnancy-related notifications and communications without deleting your account. Contact us or update your preferences in your account settings.
10.3 Account Options
You may choose to close your account entirely, pause your subscription without penalty, or continue with access to content without personalised journey tracking.
We handle these requests with care and will not ask for details about your circumstances unless necessary to process your request.
11. Your Rights
Under the Privacy Act, you have certain rights regarding your personal information:
11.1 Access
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you. To make an access request, please contact our Privacy Officer. We will respond to your request within a reasonable period (usually within 30 days). We may charge a reasonable fee to cover administrative costs.

You can request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting our Privacy Officer. Please note that we may need to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
11.4 Marketing Communications and Your Consent

We keep a record of when and how you gave your consent.
Marketing messages are separate from transactional and service messages (such as confirmations, receipts, security alerts, and trial or renewal reminders), which we send to all account holders regardless of marketing preferences.
You can withdraw your marketing consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or in your account settings, and we will stop sending marketing communications. Withdrawing your consent does not affect transactional messages.
11.5 Anonymity and Pseudonymity
You have the option to browse our free content without providing personal information. However, to create an account, make purchases, or access personalised features, we will need to collect certain personal information.
13. Children's Privacy
Our platform is designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 years of age. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information as soon as possible.
Some of our public content, such as pregnancy information, may be read by someone under 18. Reading our public pages does not require an account, and we do not ask for personal information to do it. If you are under 18 and need support, Kids Helpline is free and confidential on 1800 55 1800, any time. We will review our practices against the Children’s Online Privacy Code as it comes into effect.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on our website and, where appropriate, by email.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. The Last Updated date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised.
15. Complaints
If you believe we have breached your privacy or mishandled your personal information, you can lodge a complaint with us by contacting our Privacy Officer at [email protected].
We will acknowledge your complaint within 7 days and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
Website: www.oaic.gov.au
Phone: 1300 363 992
Post: GPO Box 5288, Sydney NSW 2001
16. Notifiable Data Breaches
In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to any individuals whose personal information is involved, we will notify the OAIC and affected individuals within 30 days of becoming aware of the breach, in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act.
17. Your Health Information
The information you share with us about your cycle, fertility, pregnancy or postpartum journey is sensitive, and we treat it with the highest level of care and confidentiality. This section sets out the specific commitments we make about it.
No sale, no advertising: We do not sell your personal information. We never share your health information with advertisers, and we never use it for advertising, ad targeting, or remarketing, or load it into any analytics or advertising tool.
Government and law-enforcement requests: We disclose your information to government or law-enforcement bodies only where we are required to by valid legal process. We will object to or challenge any request that we consider overbroad, unclear, or unlawful, and where we must disclose, we will release only the minimum information necessary.
De-identification: Where we de-identify your information (for example, for aggregate analytics or research), we keep it in de-identified form and do not attempt to re-identify you.
Education, not medical advice: Our platform provides educational information only and does not constitute medical advice; we do not provide medical diagnoses or treatment. Any health decisions should be made in consultation with your healthcare provider.
